How to Choose the Right Chair Covers

When looking for chair covers for your event there are few important aspects you have to consider. First, how many GSM or grams per square meter do they weigh? Second, what material are they made from? Third, can they be washed and reused?

Quality:

To determine the quality of the chair covers you want to purchase ask the supplier for the weight, material type, and washing instructions. Polyester is the most common. When purchasing polyester chair covers you want to make sure they are not less than 150 GSM. Anything below 150 GSM would be too thin and the material would show through. You don’t want them to be over 170 GSM either. They would be too heavy and strain your washing machine when washing them. Generally 150 GSM is the best choice for polyester chair covers. For satin 90 GSM is adequate and 200 GSM for spandex.

Material:

The material is important to know as well. Different material chair covers have different prices. Polyester is generally the least expensive. Satin are usually more expensive than polyester, and spandex chair covers are more expensive than both polyester and satin chair covers. In addition to the price difference there feature differences for each type. The three different chair covers mentioned have different textures and look. Polyester has a coarse texture and feel, but the satin has a silky smooth feel to it and is shiny, and the spandex chair covers are not shiny but they are smooth. Although spandex is more expensive than polyester and satin, spandex is much easier to care for.

Care Instructions:

It is a good idea to know the care instructions for your chair covers before you make your purchase. If you base your decision solely on the initial price you might end up paying more later when it comes to washing and reusing them. For example, you can purchase polyester chair covers at around $2.50 each and the spandex chair covers around $5.00 each. If you are only going to use them once and don’t really care what kind you use then the $2.50 polyester chair covers might be the right choice for you. But if you are an event planner and are going to wash and reuse them for more than one event then you must know that the polyester and satin will require ironing and/or steaming before every use.

However, the spandex chair covers don’t require ironing or steaming before every use. You can store them any way you want, stuffed all together, etc. But if you stuff all the polyester and satin in one bin then you will have a lot of wrinkles and creases later. Therefore, spandex may cost more initially, but it is less labor intensive when it comes to reusing them.
